Keystone Scholars

State Treasurer Stacy Garrity announced a statewide incentive for Keystone Scholars this month which will give children a head start on education savings. Families who claim their child’s $100 scholarship from Keystone Scholars in November and open and link their own companion PA 529 College and Career Savings Program account will get an additional $50. Keystone Scholars provides a $100 scholarship for every child born in Pennsylvania since 2019. This money grows alongside the child and will be available to use after their 18th birthday to help pay for costs associated with four-year degrees, community college, technical training, apprenticeships and credential programs. Visit https://pa529.com/keystone/ for more information.

So Long Pennies! What You Need to Know

Image of a pile of pennies

The U.S. Mint will stop producing new pennies in early 2026 due to high production costs. Existing pennies will still be usable and can be spent or deposited at your bank (PRS has a great coin counter in the lobby!). Merchants will most likely start rounding costs to the nearest five cents for cash totals, but digital and credit card payments will likely stay the same.

Notice of Change to Regulation D

On April 24, 2020, The Federal Reserve Board announced an interim rule to ammend Regulation D (Reserve Requirements of Depository Institutions) to delete the six-per-month limit on convenient transfers from the "savings deposit" definition. The interim final rule allows depository institutions immediately to suspend enforcement of the six-transfer limit and to allow their customers to make an unlimited number of convenient transfers and withdrawals from their savings deposits at a time when financial events associated with the coronavirus pandemic have made such access more urgent.

As a result of these changes, Port Richmond Savings will now allow an unlimited number of convenient withdrawals or transfers of funds from savings accounts. This change is effective immediately.
