Nestled in the heart of Philadelphia’s Riverwards district, Port Richmond Savings has been a cornerstone of the community since 1919.

A Brief History

Our story began when a group of local business owners and community leaders recognized the need for banking services in Port Richmond. On June 5, 1919, they founded Windthorst Building and Loan Association with 16 neighborhood residents serving as board members. Over the years, we merged with several other local associations, including Northwestern Reliable Building and Loan in 1961, Jackson Building and Loan in 1971, and Warsaw Building and Loan in 1979, which resulted in a name change to Windthorst Warsaw Savings. It was in 1991, we proudly adopted the name Port Richmond Savings, reflecting our deep roots and commitment to the community we serve.

Our expertise and experience in the banking field are demonstrated by the fact that our Executive Officer Team, Sid Smith (President) and Tom Werynski (VP Lending) have been leading the bank since the late 1980s.
